Beauty isn’t just about what we put on our skin. Beauty is holistic: it’s what we put in and on our body. It’s the energy that glows within us, and the energy we put out into the world.

To enhance our beauty energy we need to release what no longer serves us. We habitually add more and more to our lives until they’re overflowing with items, activities, beliefs, and routines. Releasing something brings us more space, more freedom, and more energy. We’ve spoken with our Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of our favorite wellness gurus — to discover what they’re releasing, in order to uncover more beauty energy.

This week, rainforest herbalist, and founder of plant-based apothecary Anima Mundi, Adriana Ayales, shares what she’s letting go, and why.

The Physical

What physical item are you throwing away?

I’m a pretty simple person. I’ve never been one to have lots of possessions. I constantly clear my closet and give clothes away to friends or people in need. I easily let go of the need to hold onto things that are charged with nostalgia or remembrance. It feels so good to make space in your closet (literally and metaphorically!) and give away possessions to those in need.

The Expectation

What expectation are you letting go?

“More work is more productivity.” When you own your own business, you wear so many hats, and the to-do list is never-ending. It’s easy to feel like you can’t stop. However, the magic really begins when you learn to delegate so you can create space and give yourself some TLC. I had to surrender and rewire my mind to understand that self-care enables more efficiency and productivity.

The Habit

What long-lasting habit or movement are you stopping

Bypassing exercise because of “busy-ness”. I’m committing to exercising five days a week, whether it’s yoga, a run, a long hike in the jungle…I want to spend one hour a day sweating, being in bliss, turning the phone off, and getting in shape on a mental and spiritual level. [One small change a day…sounds familiar!—Ed.]

The Visual

What image or picture makes you feel beautiful, and why?

This picture reminds me of the freedom I feel when running onto the beach and diving into the ocean at sunset. Costa Rica is home, and I love the warm, delicious feeling of its pristine magic.
