Beauty is holistic: it’s the energy that glows within us, and the energy we put out into the world. It’s what we put in and on our body.

To enhance our beauty energy, we need to release what no longer serves us. We habitually add items, activities, beliefs, and routines to our lives until they’re overflowing. Releasing something brings us more space, more freedom, and more energy. We’ve spoken with our Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of our favorite wellness gurus — to discover what they’re releasing.

This week, plant-based mindfulness blogger, Mallory Bryan, shares what she’s letting go and why.

The Physical

What physical item are you throwing away?

I’m very picky when it comes to having clutter around the house. I try to make sure everything has a place and purpose. I’ve been getting rid of anything that doesn’t add value to my life. This included throwing out all my heavier makeup. I used to think I needed makeup that would cover every imperfection on my face. I’ve switched to a lighter powder and a little eye makeup — it’s amazing how much more free I feel.

The Expectation

What expectation are you letting go?

I’m letting go of the expectation I have to eat healthily all the time. I love how my body feels when I eat good food, but sometimes I want fries! It’s freeing to remember that balance is key to a healthy life [This is exactly the Splendid approach :) — Ed.].

The Habit

What long-lasting habit or movement are you stopping?

I’d like to stop watching so much TV. I want to find more activities that keep me moving! Lately, my husband and I have started playing tennis. It’s so fun!

The Visual

What image or picture makes you feel beautiful, and why?

This photo [See top. — Ed.]. It was taken when I attended my first ever VegFestKC (a vegan festival in Kansas City). I’d just downed my first ever bottle of beet juice and I had a plate full of chickpea “hot wings”. Both my body and taste buds felt great. I was so happy to learn that vegan food can taste so good!
