We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a little bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;).

This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of wellness blogger and podcast host, Krista Williams.

Splendid Spoon: Hey Krista! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Krista Williams: Hi hi! I’m Krista, the blogger at the Hundred Blog, where I keep it 100 (aka as honest as possible) on all things wellness, personal growth, style, and travel. I’m also one half of the Almost 30 Podcast, which is all about the transition from your twenties to thirties.

I’m vegan for ethical reasons, and I’m passionate about the benefits of healthy eating. When I’m not blogging or podcasting, I’m working out or at the beach by our house in Venice, CA. I’m Midwest born but hope to live in California forever :).

SS: What are the 5 staples you can’t live without?
KW:

  1. Avocado. My love for avocados runs deep. I eat half an avocado a day. They’re loaded with healthy fats and fiber, and are high in potassium, which helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels. They’re key for naturally balancing hormones.
  2. Frozen cauliflower. It’s full of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and anti-inflammatory properties. I add it to smoothies for creaminess and extra nutrients.
  3. Vegan protein powder. I often have a protein shake when I need something to hold me over until dinner, or if want a quick breakfast in the morning. I love Plant Fusion because it contains superfoods and keeps me full.
  4. Collagen peptides. I notice the difference in my hair, skin and nails when I use them. They smooth and plump everything!
  5. Finn crisps. This is the wildcard! I order them in bulk on Amazon. They’re high-fiber, whole grain, sugar-free crackers. I eat them everyday with hummus, nut butters, or any sort of dip for extra fiber. They aren’t super flavorful but they’re nourishing and a great vehicle for dips :).

SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
KW: If you aren’t into health and wellness, my fridge would freak you out! I keep my probiotics and some vitamins in there, blue green algae, lots of liquids and green juices, fermented foods, and so many beverages. I’m always trying new things so it’s often like a test kitchen in my fridge!

SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
KW: I’m such a sweet person — I rarely love anything savory! For sweet I love a good, thick protein smoothie, ideally made with half an avocado, chia seeds, and protein powder. It feels like a sweet dessert, but has virtually no sugar. It’s filling, and packed with healthy fats and protein. If I must, I’ll also add some greens.

For savory, I love making tofu scramble. I coat the tofu in a spice mix of nutritional yeast, chili powder, salt, turmeric, and garlic powder before scrambling it with avocado oil, peppers, onion, and black beans.

SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would it be?
KW: I always have some sort of nut milk (I love flax, coconut, or macadamia) in my fridge. I use it almost everyday whether it’s for smoothies, lattes, or cooking! I’d be probably be one of those because I use them so often!

SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
KW: I honestly don’t crave anything from my childhood! My poor mom! I didn’t love her cooking! I ate so much trash like cereals, crackers, mac and cheese, and it all sounds so nasty to me now. The foods I love and crave are thick warm soups (like the Splendid Spoon ones!), and healthy treats from my local Cafe Gratitude. I really love Cafe Gratitude’s old-fashioned key lime pie (made with avocado and coconut oil)!
