Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness gurus. We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;).

This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of mama and creative, Paige Rangel.

Splendid Spoon: Hey Paige! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Paige Rangel: Hey there! I’m a mama x 3 and creative type. Before kids (and through having my first two), I worked in the fast-paced world of design and product development in the fashion industry of L.A. As our family grew, my husband and I decided it would make more sense to move to the Phoenix area, where we had more support. I started blogging around that time as a creative outlet, since I was otherwise home taking care of the kids. It was a big shift for me, and wasn’t always easy. On my blog and through my Instagram, I found a connection to a larger community of moms that I needed then, and still cherish now. I share my personal adventures in parenting, products I love, places we go, and all things good design. Including our home, which we just finished remodeling this past year! Now, my blog has become my full time business, and I am so grateful that I get to do it everyday, while still being able to take care of my kiddos in between. Through it all, maintaining a clean, green, and healthy lifestyle has been a constant in my life. I am very particular about what household products and food I bring into our home. I am not a strict vegan, as I do have other dietary allergies and sensitivities. But I love eating plant based as much as possible, and keeping my family healthy now and in the long term is one of my top priorities.

SS: What are the 5 kitchen staples you can’t live without?
PR: Our Copper Kettle, a good, sharp knife, wooden cutting boards, lemons (we have our own tree!), and avocados to go on everything.

SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
PR: Hmmm, I don’t have too many weird things in there! I do keep pretty much all of my supplements in the fridge now, since my probiotics have to be in there. It’s just easier to have them all in one place!

SS: What is your go-to meal when you need a mental and physical reset?
PR: I like a good bowl with whole, ancient grains, wilted greens, crunchy veggies like carrots and cucumbers, seaweed, and roasted root veggies. Basically whatever I have on hand that can go together and fill me up with high density nutrition!

SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
PR: Favorite sweet is just pure dark chocolate, at least 70% or darker — I buy bars of it just to have on hand for emergencies ;). Favorite savory is currently Simple Mills Sea Salt Crackers with Cilantro Bitchin’ Sauce.

SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would it be?
PR: Kombucha. Bubbly, detoxifying, with just a little kick to keep you going.

SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
PR: Before turning to a more plant-based and gluten free diet, I looooved pizza. We used to do it weekly as a family! But it’s too hard for me to digest now. This might be kinda lame, but when I still need that pizza fix and want something easy, I really like the frozen pizzas from Daiya. They hit the spot!
