Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness gurus. We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a little bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;).

This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of teacher and wellness fanatic, Sarah Proeber.

Splendid Spoon: Hey Sarah! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Sarah Proeber: I’m a wife and teacher, based in the beautiful state of Montana. I’m a firm believer that you are what you eat.

In my spare moments, I like to adventure outside, search for cheap flights around the world, and help people fully understand how easy it is to nourish ourselves well, so that we can do all the things we love.

SS: What are the 5 staples you can’t live without?
SP: Only 5? Okay, here goes. Raw honey, sweet potatoes, salsa, any homemade nut-butter (cashew is my favorite), and spinach.

SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
SP: Pomegranate molasses. I’ve been meaning to use them to make homemade BBQ sauce for a vegan BBQ macaroni salad.

SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
SP: For sweet, my inner child is screaming at me to write ice cream, but I’m trying to cut back. So right now I have to say Greek yogurt with honey, cacao nibs, and cinnamon.

For savory, I love sprouted toast with avocado, red pepper flakes, olive oil, and a dash of Himalayan salt. This is a daily snack for me that I always devour in less than a minute.

SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would it be?
SP: Kombucha! It’s always bubbly and there for me when I need it. Plus, it comes in a million flavors, which is so fun.

SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
SP: I can vividly remember sitting in my living room as a little girl, crying over something that happened at school, and my mom bought me hot cocoa with tiny marshmallows on top. Ever since then, I allow myself a big mug of hot cocoa when I need some love. It’s happiness in a cup for me.

For a healthier twist to the average, store-bought, sugar-filled cocoa powder, I like to make my own by mixing maple syrup and cacao powder, and adding boiling water or almond milk.
