Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness peeps on Instagram. We may post a lot of soup and pretty salads but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a little naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;)

Splendid Spoon’s very own Rene Lozzi is our first Fridge Voyeur exhibitionist. As the heart of operations at Splendid Spoon, we know she’s as obsessed with our delicious soups as we are, but what else is she into?

Splendid Spoon: What are your top 5 staple items you can’t live without?
Rene Lozzi: This is a hard question because I hate picking favorites. I love all food, but at the moment I am super into:

  1. Black Bean Hummus
  2. Tom Cat Bakery Whole Wheat Baguette made locally in LIC
  3. Chunky Peanut Butter
  4. Honey Crisp Apples
  5. Bacon
  6. Butter

SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
RL: Homemade Worcestershire Sauce

SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
RL: Sweet: Haagen Dazs chocolate ice cream. It has very few, simple ingredients and tastes so good! Savory: Roasted okra. I swear they are better than french fries.

SS: If you were one thing in your fridge what would it be?
RL: The mini bell peppers. They are crisp, a little sweet, bright, and colorful. I think they speak to the kind of human I want to be :)

SS: What is a food you cook or one that is in your fridge that is comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
RL: My comfort food is shakshuka, this hearty Israeli dish reminds me of a former housemate who became a very close friend. My friend had lived in Israel and her favorite food from there was shakshuka. I had never heard of it before but quickly learned how to make this simple dish. It became our go to family meal. The hearty stewed tomatoes, poached eggs, feta, fresh cilantro and warm pita is so satisfying and warming. She moved but when she visits I make her shakshuka. Here is a link to one of my favorite shakshuka recipes. I am totally making this for dinner tonight. I love food memories.
