Trying to figure out how to fit Splendid into your life? We understand that everyone has different goals and needs when it comes to what they put in their bodies. Michele from @AFitAndFabulousMichele breaks down different hacks that can take your smoothies to a new nutritious level!

Although they say that you have one life to live and that you should make it yours, we oftentimes end up following the latest trends in regards to fashion, fitness, and food. Rather than listening to our needs and preferences, we tend to get lost in what works for someone else, especially with food. In fact, you may have come across this article while looking at Splendid Spoon and trying to determine it’s a food trend or if it’s just right for you.

Despite the positive reviews (including mine on my blog!) and the nutritious ingredients, you may be wondering whether or not you can make it fit into your day and/or if it’s worth the buy because you are unsure of the taste.

I understand the hesitation, but I have come to learn that you can easily take a pre-packaged food and make it right for you. You could adapt the ingredients, split the quantity of it, and add some toppings to make it your own. Let me show you how to jazz up your Splendid Spoon smoothie and make it YOURS.

Make it Your Smoothie

Whether or not you have just received your weekly smoothie delivery or are milling around on splendidspoon.com contemplating ordering, there are many nutrition (and flavor!) components to consider. Here are a few suggestions on how to make a smoothie fit your life!

Counting Calories?

  1. Make it Lower In Calories: You don’t need to drink the whole bottle if you don’t want. You can easily split it into two components as the serving size suggests. Simply drink half and/or measure a certain amount which you feel comfortable with and save the rest. If you want it to have more volume you can blend it up with ice in a blender. Additionally, you can add cauliflower (although the taste would more diluted).
  2. Make it Higher In Calories: One the other hand, you may need more calories for a meal than the bottle provides. If this is the case, there are tons of  fun options. You can add a TBSP of peanut butter, chocolate chips, coconut chips, and/or flax seeds to the top. Additionally, you can mix the smoothie in the blender with more fruit (like bananas). You can also add in a scoop of protein powder and/or utilize this as a drink to have with a meal (such as eggs + toast + etc).

Counting Macros

If you are counting macros, there are a few things on your mind. Not only are you thinking of the macronutrients: protein, carbs, and fats, but you are also thinking of the micronutrients and how to get what you need in the course of a day. While it may seem like a puzzle at times, it’s easy to adapt your Splendid Spoon smoothie. See below on how to jazz it up.

  1. Reducing carbs, fats, and proteins:
The best way to do this is by splitting the smoothie in half, and adjusting what you do drink to suit your needs.. Save what you don’t drink for the next day, and add in the components below to make your smoothie more filling or satiating according to your needs.
  2. Increasing carbs, fats, and proteins.
Need more Carbs? Add: Bananas, other fruit, cereal as a topping, or make a piece of toast on the side.
Need more Fats? Add: Cocoa nibs, chocolate chips, nut butter (almond, peanut, etc.), nuts, coconut oil, avocado, dried coconut, flaxseeds, or chia.
Need More Protein? Add: Protein powder, scramble an egg, have a hard boiled egg on the side, or add some greek yogurt!

Want a Different Consistency?

Freeze the smoothies into popsicles and add in chocolate chips or fresh fruit, as you prefer. Sometimes it’s necessary to change it up… you know you want to!

Turn your smoothie into a smoothie bowl! Pour some into a bowl and add your favorite toppings. Check out our blog post on smoothie bowls here.
