When you notice that you are hooked by a strong emotion see if you can pause, drop the story line around the emotion, and simply feel it in your body.

Apply a gentle curiosity to the emotion itself: where is it in your body? Is it hot or cold? What size and shape is it?

When we look at our emotional states we realize they are more ephemeral than we might have originally suspected.
