Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness gurus. We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;).

This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of sustainability bloggers, Laura and Adam.

Splendid Spoon: Hey Laura and Adam! Tell us a bit about yourselves.
Laura & Adam: Hi! We’re a San Diego based couple. We write a blog called Live to Sustain, all about how to live more sustainably.

Adam and I moved in together less than a year ago, so we’re still getting into the groove of adulting, meal-planning, and such. Neither of us loves cooking (although Adam is the King of Burritos), which is one of the reasons why we’re obsessed with Splendid Spoon.

SS: What 5 staples can you not live without?
L&A: We eat burritos at least three nights a week. They’re super simple and Adam’s perfected the process. The key is to warm the tortilla shells on the stovetop. So, our 5 staples are the ingredients for the most basic burrito:

  • Tortilla shells
  • Black beans
  • Avocado
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Greek yoghurt (for faux sour cream)

SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
L&A: There’s a can of Miller Lite in the fridge — just one. I have no idea why it’s there. Neither of us drinks it.

SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
L&A: For sweet, we’re obsessed with Coconut Bliss (a dairy-free frozen dessert that tastes better than ice cream!). We’re not vegan, but we’ve been trying to cut back on dairy. It comes in a bunch of yummy flavors and makes going vegan feel like a piece of cake.

For savory, we’ve been experimenting with meat-free burgers a lot and have found a new favorite: a crunchy quinoa burger. It’s like a fried chicken burger without all the grease. Add a slice of cheese and some avo, and you’re in chicken-free heaven!

SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would it be?
L&A: The little box of baking soda that keeps the air fresh — we don’t want to get eaten!

SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
L&A: Pizza! It’s certainly not the healthiest, but it’s delicious and fun to share. Pizza reminds me of Friday nights growing up, and of late nights partying in New York. There’s never a bad time for pizza.
