Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness gurus. We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a little bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;).

This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of our very own Spoon Captain, and mom to two boys, Nicole Centeno.

Splendid Spoon: Hey Nicole! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Nicole Centeno: I have a pretty cool life, I think! I spend a lot of time with my kids, a lot of time with my excellent team, and a nice amount of time taking care of myself.

At Splendid Spoon, I focus on healing our relationship with food and our bodies. I get to think about the ways in which what we eat and how we eat connects us more deeply to ourselves! I also do my best to maintain the vibe at Splendid — productive, but also chill, inspired, challenged, and curious.

SS: What are the 5 staples you can’t live without?
NC: Splendid meals (no joke — I first created this business for my and my family’s needs!), fresh fruit, cilantro (great for detoxifying the liver of excess estrogen; in other words it helps keep my skin clear), leafy greens, and hot sauce or a spicy fresh pepper.

SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
NC: Several jars of anchovies — I’m a sucker for cured fish!

SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
NC: Fave sweet is hands down the Fine and Raw truffle chunky. Savory is popcorn with lots of ghee or coconut oil or olive oil and nutritional yeast.

SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would you be?
NC: Shishito peppers! They’re crisp, versatile, reliably tasty, but then — surprise! — you get hit with that incredibly spicy one ;).

SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
NC: For new school comfort it’s probably our Chana Potato Stew. I love tucking into that flavor at the end of the day; the Indian spices create such a soothing aroma. Old school comfort is definitely mashed potatoes. Nothing reminds me of family time and mom’s hugs like a pile of whipped russets with streams of butter running down the sides.
