Beauty isn’t just about what we put on our skin. Beauty is holistic: it’s what we put in and on our body. It’s the energy that glows within us, and the energy we put out into the world.

To enhance our beauty energy we need to release what no longer serves us. We habitually add more and more to our lives until they’re overflowing with items, activities, beliefs, and routines. Releasing something brings us more space, more freedom, and more energy. We’ve spoken with our Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of our favorite wellness gurus — to discover what they’re releasing, in order to uncover more beauty energy.

This week, holistic nutritionist, wellness writer, and wellness retreat curator Shauna Faulisi, shares what she’s letting go, and why.

The Physical

What physical item are you throwing away?

The timing of this is uncanny! I’m currently going through one draw/closet a day and throwing away anything that does not bring me joy. This mainly consists of clothes that I bought for the wrong reasons — to fill a void, to feel like someone different, to hide. This purging feels like the start of a new world and existence.

The Expectation

What expectation that you put on yourself are you letting go?

I’m currently being more gentle with myself on the timing of my life. I have this idea that I should have it all figured out in my ever-changing business and practice. I’m working on getting comfortable with change, and letting go of my expectations of perfection. I will know what I need to know when I need to know it.

The Habit

What long-lasting habit or movement are you putting a stop to?

I’m finally stopping my mean-girl voice! I’m working on constantly having my nice, understanding voice present in my mind. I’m focusing on treating myself like I would a small child.

The Visual

What image or picture makes you feel beautiful, and why?

When I read this question I immediately thought of my mom. She chooses to be vibrant and happy every day. She takes care of herself, and is kind to everyone around her. She’s an inspiration, and also a knockout :).
